NEMM is a certified EM (electronic monitoring) fisheries-based technology company, specializing in cooperative research, stakeholder mapping, shared ocean user and maritime stakeholder outreach. NEMM provides technology solutions as well as at sea personnel for a variety of marine based customers including OSW developers.
Since its inception, NEMM consistently leads the industry in the use of cameras for marine based data collection with a focus on topside technologies. NEMM is active in the offshore wind sector along the eastern seaboard. NEMM’s OSW work includes providing marine affairs services, fisheries liaison officers (FLO’s) both on and offshore, protected species observers (PSO’s) and vessel services such as scout/safety vessels. NEMM provided PSO staff to 6 projects in 2023, 5 of which were OSW.
NEMM staff have spent years collaborating with the fishing industry to develop and implement solutions like electronic monitoring for fisheries observing or low cost ropeless fishing gear. The NEMM team has built extensive working relationships with individual fishermen as well as fishing organizations and has an industry leading commercial fishing stakeholder database.
With camera-based systems being a focus, NEMM currently provides end to end electronic monitoring services to more than 150 vessels across five programs nationally. Our staff is built around marine biologists, fisheries experts, commercial fishermen, and licensed USCG Captains. Most of our staff have over ten years of experience working in US fisheries and their related fields. NEMM’s practical experience on the ocean is second to none and spans hands-on experience with all commercial fishing disciplines and gear types along the eastern seaboard.
NEMM has field staff located in 11 states along the eastern seaboard with our technology headquarters on the waterfront of Portland, ME and our staffing headquarters conveniently located in the offshore wind hub of New Bedford, MA.
